Press Release Template: Fill Six Fields, Get a Draft

This free press release template builds a one-page announcement for a launch, funding round, partnership, milestone or hire. Fill the fields, check the six-point list, copy the text.

Startup press release generator

Pick the announcement type, fill in the facts you have, and the draft updates as you type. Anything in [BRACKETS] still needs your input.

    How the draft is built

What the template puts in each paragraph

    Headline and dateline

The headline is company, verb and news in one line, so it reads as a fact and not a slogan. The dateline follows wire style: CITY, date, then the first sentence, which carries the who, what and when.

    Proof point before the quote

Paragraph two holds your number, customer or result. Journalists check for evidence before they read opinion, so the quote comes after it, not before.

    Boilerplate, contact and end mark

Every draft closes with a two-sentence About block, a single media contact and the ### end mark. These are the lines most founders forget, and the ones a reporter needs to follow up.

    Plan the news first

Write the announcement after the launch plan, not before

A press release works when it sits inside a launch sequence. The release is one asset among several: a post on your site, a short pitch to a handful of journalists, a note to existing customers. Decide the date, the one number you can defend and the spokesperson before you open the generator. If you cannot fill the proof field with something specific, the announcement is probably not ready for the press yet.

    • Fix the release date at least one week out
    • Pick one number you can show evidence for
    • Choose one spokesperson, not three
    • Line up five to ten journalists who covered something similar

    Before you hit send

Four checks before the release goes out

    1. 1

Read the first two sentences alone

If a stranger cannot say what happened and why it matters from those two sentences, rewrite the lead. Everything below it is supporting material.

    2. 2

Replace every bracket and every adjective

Clear the placeholders the checklist counts, then cut words like innovative or leading unless a number sits next to them. Claims need evidence, not volume.

    3. 3

Confirm names, figures and the quote with their owners

The spokesperson approves the quote in writing. Investors, partners and customers named in the text approve their mention. One wrong figure costs more than a late send.

    4. 4

Paste it into the email, then attach nothing

Put the release below a three-line personal pitch. Many journalists will not open attachments from an unknown sender, and a pasted release is readable on a phone.

    Press release template questions

Is this press release template free?
Yes. It runs in your browser, needs no signup, and sends nothing to a server. Your company name, quote and contact details stay on your device.
What goes into a press release for a startup?
Six parts: a headline that states the news, a dateline plus a lead paragraph with who, what, when and where, one proof point, a spokesperson quote, a short boilerplate, and a media contact. The draft above assembles all six in that order.
How long should a press release be?
One page. A tight announcement for a startup usually fits in 300 to 400 words including the boilerplate. The generator flags a body below 60 or above 400 words, because journalists skim the first two paragraphs and rarely read past them.
Do I need a press release for a product launch?
Only when there is news an outsider would repeat: a launch with a number behind it, a funding round, a named partner, a customer milestone or a senior hire. A feature update with no proof point belongs in a changelog or a launch post, not in journalists' inboxes.
Where do I send the finished release?
Start with five to ten journalists who covered a similar announcement in the last three months, and send a short personal pitch with the release pasted below it, not attached. Wire services help with distribution and archiving but do not replace a targeted pitch.
Why does the tool leave brackets in the draft?
Brackets mark facts only you can supply, such as the city, the spokesperson or the contact email. The checklist counts them, and a release should go out with zero left. A placeholder in a sent release is the fastest way to lose a journalist's trust.
Can I edit the generated text?
Yes. The draft box is a normal text area, so you can edit it directly. Note that changing a field above regenerates the draft and overwrites manual edits, so copy your edited version out before adjusting fields.
Does the generator write the quote for me?
No, and that is deliberate. A made-up quote reads as filler. If you leave the field empty, the draft inserts a bracketed prompt that tells you what the sentence should contain: the problem you saw and what changes for your customer.
